Children often complain that they are bored, or that they have nothing to do. There are several ways to remedy their angst and do something helpful for those in need in their community. They may even like these ideas and decide to do them on a regular basis.
Donate to Goodwill
Children grow out of old clothes and toys so quickly. Have them go through items they no longer care for or use, and then bring them to Goodwill. This will keep the kids busy rummaging through their belongings and also help other kids who cannot afford new things. They may also learn a valuable lesson about how fortunate they are.
Donate to a Food Bank
Again, this provides them with an outlet to engross themselves, forget about their boredom, and provide a helping hand. We always manage to purchase more than we can consume. Non-perishable items, such as canned soup or dry items, such as rice, tend to last a very long time, so instead of letting them expire in a pantry, gather the kids for a few hours and donate it to a food bank.
Do Something Helpful for the Community After A Natural Disaster
Every so often, the eastern seaboard is hit by a hurricane or other large storm. Having your kids help with the cleanup is a fantastic way to give back to the community. There are several organizations that welcome volunteers and donations to help following a disaster, such as The Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Citizens Corps. In addition, local insurance companies, such as Young Insurance Associates, Inc. of Raleigh, NC, are actively involved in teaming up with organizations that are involved with restoring the area. It is also advisable to make sure you are insured by someone in your community if you require assistance.
